”Supporters immediately hailed the bill as historic, in large part because that six cents is the first increase of the reimbursement rate in 30 years.” – Jane Black, discussing the six cent increase in federal reimbursement for school lunch programs
Is it depressing that the government, with the costs of food fluctuating and increasing, hasn’t increased the amount of federal reimbursement for school lunch programs? I am assuming that the rate HAS increased with inflation (hopefully), but even with that, this is something I can’t believe. And the most ridiculous part: in 2004-2005, the total reimbursement for a student’s lunch was $1.81, even though schools said it cost $2.28 to produce a tray of school lunch food.
Can you believe that we can feed a student for $2.28? I watched Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution, and can totally believe that we are feeding our students the crap food we are with the $2.28. I mean, powdered mashed potatoes and chicken nuggets aren’t that expensive.

SEVERUS. PLEASE.
Am I the only one who has noticed this? Ridiculous.
